Dear Oshawa Dodgers Fan:

Well, another regular season of baseball is coming to a close.  I would like to
take this opportunity to thank you for supporting the Oshawa Dodgers,
especially through our difficult season.  I felt it important to relay to you, the
fans, just what went wrong this season and to assure you that we are
committed to working hard to bring a successful Intercounty team to Oshawa
in the upcoming season.

Probably our biggest disappointment this season has been our pitching.  In
order to be a competitive team in this league, you need a pitching rotation
comprised of starters, relievers and a closer.  We had trouble filling these
roles this year with injuries and illness.  What was expected to be a pitching
staff to be reckoned with, quickly deteriorated with the loss of Matt Tosoni,
Travis Gilligan, Alex Baboulas, Mark Dainty, Greg Byron and Pat Smith.  We
were also unfortunate enough to lose our two catchers, Kevin Brown and
Aaron Izaryk who both landed baseball job opportunities in the U.S.  In
addition, one of the Dodgers most productive players in past seasons, Ryan
Crotin, remained in Germany, playing baseball professionally.

We expect a lot of changes in store for next season.  We hope to build on two
of our key additions to this season’s roster, Dane Wolfe and Brad
McConnachie, Oshawa's representative at the Intercounty All-Star game this
season.

I would also like to mention how difficult it is to run a successful Intercounty
Baseball team here in Oshawa.  The success of the team rides largely on
sponsorship.  These players are not paid to play baseball but are also not
expected to pay anything to play either.  There are many fees associated with
running this team.  We must pay umpires for every home game, supply
equipment for the team to use (bats, balls, catcher’s equipment, helmets,
etc.), purchase uniforms, occasionally take buses to away games and the list
goes on and on.  Sponsorship has been very difficult to obtain.  We somehow
need to get the word out there that baseball is a great game and companies
and businesses should invest in our team to help make us competitive in
this league, which is arguably the best amateur baseball in Canada.

Currently we are struggling in the volunteer department.  We desperately
need volunteers to help out in the capacity of ticket-taking, operating the
sound system, announcing, publishing game day programs and most
importantly, as detailed above, securing sponsorship.  Volunteers will get in
free to all games.  It is a great way to help out the team and can also be used
for high school students toward their volunteer hours.  If anyone is interested
in volunteering please e-mail me at troymay@rogers.com or call 905-428-
6684.

Thank you for your patronage and I look forward to seeing you next season.

Sincerely,

Troy May
