As you are probably aware, tragedy struck the Oshawa Dodgers organization this past summer. Dodgers Founder and President Troy May and his wife and two children were involved in a serious motor vehicle accident which claimed Troy's life. Troy May's two young sons both suffered life-threatening injuries and are started on a long road to recovery. After much discussion and consideration and looking into the eyes of these his boys, the decision was made........the Dodgers must go on.
We have seen first-hand the hard work and determination that went into being awarded an Intercounty team in Oshawa and do not feel that we can let Troy down by giving up. This past summer has taught us a lot about baseball but more about life. The Dodgers are more than just a baseball team. The Dodgers have become a part of our family. Troy would have been so proud to see his team lining the halls of McMaster Hospital in Hamilton and The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto praying for his boys to get well. We are truly honoured to be able to carry on such a legacy and hope that continuing with the Dodgers will not only be continuing competitive baseball in Oshawa, but also will bring joy to his boys who will always feel close to their Dad when they are on the baseball field.
Troy was the heart and soul of the Oshawa Dodgers. We are only just beginning to see the amount of work that went into running this team. It is beyond belief that he pretty much single-handedly looked after the on and off field operations of the team. This is a tremendous job and we are hoping to do this right in honour of Troy and everything he has done for sports in the Durham Region.
As such, the Dodgers need your help. We are currently asking for volunteers in any capacity. We are looking to get a staff of volunteers to help with sponsorship, ticket sales and off-field promotions. Running an Intercounty franchise is a very costly endeavor with an estimated budget of $60,000 - $75,000 and obtaining sponsorship has been a major issue since the conception of the team. We are appealing to local businesses and companies who may be able to help our cause where we could discuss advertising opportunities in return. Oshawa has never been known as a baseball city and we are looking to change this.
Troy's dream was to fill Kinsmen stadium and bring the Intercounty Championship to Oshawa. With your help we can make this happen in honour of Troy and all he has done for the baseball community. Season tickets are now available for 2007 at a cost of $40.00 for eighteen home games. The Dodgers are fortunate to have Mike Prosper back as Manager for the 2007 season and are looking to build on the improvements made last year when the Dodgers had their second most successful season in team history. The Dodgers intend to keep their core nucleus of players from last season and are happy to report that we have already made a couple of promising signings on the road to getting the Dodgers an Intercounty title.
Please help us to keep Troy’s legacy alive and promote baseball in Durham through the Oshawa Dodgers Baseball Club. For those interested in volunteering, purchasing season tickets or offering assistance of any kind please contact:
