Oshawa Dodgers Partner with the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation
The Oshawa Dodgers are excited to announce that June 23rd will be the 2nd annual Crohn’s and Colitis Day at Kinsmen Stadium when the Oshawa Dodgers take on the Brantford Red Sox at 2pm. The Oshawa Dodgers have committed that all proceeds from 2006 will be donated to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC), a national not-for-profit voluntary medical research Foundation for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), in honour of Dodger pitcher Matt Tosoni who missed the entire 2005 season suffering from ulcerative colitis. On June 23rd representatives from the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation will be on hand to throw out the first pitch and distribute literature. Draws for Dodger merchandise and prizes will be available every inning. Currently, there is no known cause or cure for IBD which an estimated 170,000 Canadian men, woman and children are currently afflicted with. People are most frequently diagnosed between the ages of 15-25 or 45-55 and is particularly difficult for children and young adults since it often affects a person’s self- concept, body image and lifestyle at a time when “being like everyone else” is so important. Most people experience periods of remission and flare-ups of the disease, often requiring long-term medication, hospitalization or surgery. Although IBD is found throughout the world, Canada is believed to have one of the highest rates of occurrence. Please support the Dodgers and Crohn’s and Colitis and come out to the game on this very special day. To find out more information on this disease please visit: www.ccfc.ca.
