With the Dodgers season now less than three months away, we are excited to announce the return of Brett Backman and Sean Cunningham to the Dodgers organization in 2008.
Backman was a member of the Dodgers pitching staff in 2004 and was the Staff Ace of the Senior Elimination Oshawa Royals in 2007. Backman got the start as the Royals downed the Tecumseh Thunder to capture their first provincial championship and the right to represent Ontario at the Canadian Senior Baseball Championship in Quebec City. Brett is a senior at Florida Tech University. Last year he posted a 3-3 record as a reliever with the Panthers with a 4.45 ERA and is 1-1 with one save and a 2.84 ERA early in this year’s college season.
Cunningham played in fourteen games for the Dodgers in the 2005 season recording a .365 batting average with 19 hits, 6 runs and 8 RBI in 52 at-bats. Sean will see time as both an infielder and outfielder with the Dodgers this season. Sean is a former draft pick of the San Diego Padres organization, selected in the 47th round of the 2004 amateur entry draft. He is currently a Junior at Lindenwood University in St. Charles Missouri.
