Beloved Dodger Losses Battle
At 10:00 PM on Wednesday February 16, 2005 Gladys Cochrane lost a battle
with cancer. Gladys was better know as the lovable Lady that ran the Snack Bar
at Kinsmen Memorial Stadium for the Oshawa Dodgers and any other team
that played out of Kinsmen, all you had to do was ask and she was there.
Gladys will be missed by everyone that knew her. Look out up there if anyone
can put you in your place it's Gladys.
Visitation will be on Friday February 18, 2005 at the Armstrong Funeral Home
on King Street in Oshawa from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
The Funeral will be on Saturday February 19, 2005 at the Armstrong Funeral
Home on King Street in Oshawa at 1:00 PM.
There will be a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion on Simcoe Street in
Oshawa at 2:00 PM to on Saturday February 19, 2005 following the Funeral.
Please pass this on to anyone that knew this great Lady.

Tosoni Comes to the Rescue Again
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Chestnut Hill, Mass. --
Freshman southpaw Matt Tosoni (Whitby, Ontario) has made a habit of coming
through for the St. John's baseball team in the last week.
On Monday, ninth-ranked Notre Dame topped St. John's in the first game of a
doubleheader, but the Canadian threw 6.1 innings in the nightcap to lead the
Red Storm to a 2-1 win over the Irish.
Five days later, Tosoni did it again. The Red Storm dropped the opening game
of a doubleheader to Boston College, 4-2, but the lefty threw five innings as the
visitors came back for a 7-1 win, splitting the BIG EAST doubleheader at Eddie
Pellegrini Field.
St. John's is now 19-13 overall, and 8-4 in the BIG EAST, while the Eagles are
now 14-18 overall and 5-4 in the league.
Tosoni gave up a leadoff home run to Ryan Morgan in the first, and retired the
next seven batters before getting into trouble in the third. With one out, Marco
Albano singled and Morgan doubled to put runners on second and third, but
Tosoni threw a pair of ground ball outs to get out of the inning.
After having the side retired in order in the first three innings, the Red Storm
bats came alive in the fourth, down 1-0. Mike Rozema (Fair Lawn, N.J.) and P.J.
Antoniato (Levittown, N.Y.) each reached base on singles, but were forced out
at third when Jim Martin (Norwood, Mass.) and Blake Hershelman
(Georgetown, Del.) reached on fielder's choices. With two out, junior Joe Burke
(Brooklyn, N.Y.) singled through the right side to score the first run, and
sophomore Eddie Schultz (Flemington, N.J.) reached on an error, allowing the
go-ahead run to score.
That was all Tosoni would need. The freshman, who picked up his second win
of the season on Monday, was strong once again. He went five innings, gave up
one run on five hits, with two walks and two strikeouts and had 10 ground ball
outs.
He was relieved in the sixth by senior Geno Orsogna (Norfolk, Mass.), who
entered with runners on first and second and none out. He struck out Garrett
Greer and then picked Drew Locke off at second before retiring the final batter.
After issuing a leadoff walk in the seventh, Antoniato made a great play at
second to turn an inning-ending double play.

Oshawa Dodgers Steven Reiss taken in day two
of Major League Draft!
Steven Reiss 19 (Thornhill, ON) was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 26th
Round.
Last week Steven pitched in his first ever game in the Intercounty league,
pitching a solid 5 innings, striking out 6 and giving up only 1 earned run.
Steven has a 1.80 ERA on the season.
This past season at Seminole Community College in Florida Steven helped
lead the Raiders to a 32-27 record for a 6th place finish in the state rankings.
With Steven's selection in the Major League draft it marks the first time ever in
the 92 years of the Intercounty League that a team has had 3 players taken in
the June armature draft in the same year.

"This is just the start of what I feel will be successful Pro careers for these 3".
When asked about losing the 3 if they sign Pro contracts. Owner Troy May had
this to say:
" I not only hope they sign but I hope they tear up the minor leagues" "sure it will
be a HUGH loss to lose these 3 GREAT pitchers but that is what the Dodgers
are here for to help young talent reach the highest level they can".
"I just hope when there pro careers are over they come back to play for the
Dodgers and we will be the team in the league with all the former pro players
on it".

Oshawa Dodgers Roga and Reiss Taken In Day
One of Major League Baseball Draft
On Day One of the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft the Oshawa Dodgers
were well represented as they had the first two Intercounty Major Baseball
League players taken, with Mike Roga (Pickering, ON) going in the 12th Round
to Toronto and Michael Reiss (Thornhill, ON) going to Atlanta in the 14th Round.
Two days after putting up a strong performance in front of Major League scouts
in London, Mike Roga was drafted in the 12th round (356th overall) by the
Toronto Blue Jays.
With the Oshawa Dodgers of the Intercounty Major Baseball League the 21 year
old Roga has pitched in 9.0 innings where he has struck out 13 to just one
walk. He leads the team with a 1.00 ERA.
This past season at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Georgia Roga put up
big numbers with a 3.00 ERA and 10-4 record. In 105 innings of work he struck
out 109 batters while allowing just 37 walks. He also recorded a no-hitter

Peach Belt Conference All-Star.
Dodgers Michael Reiss was taken two rounds later in the 14th Round (425th

throwing right hander was drafted. In 2000 he went to the Milwaukee Brewers in
the 26th Round.
This past season at Seminole Community College in Florida Reiss helped
lead the Raiders to a 32-27 record for a 6th place finish in the state rankings.

Dodgers announce signing!
The Oshawa Dodgers are pleased to announce the signing of Ryan Crotin.
The signing was made official after the team’s workout this past Tuesday at
Eastdale C.I. in Oshawa.
After Director of Baseball Operations Sam Dempster put the hopefuls through a
vigorous workout at Eastdale, Ryan approached Owner and CEO Troy May and
said "Lets get this done, I want to be a part of this" "That was an excellent
workout, I had lots of FUN and plenty of practice".
When asked for a comment the Owner and CEO had this to say” WOW"
When asked to elaborate Troy May said "Ryan works so hard every minute and
you can see that he loves the game of baseball" "Ryan will be a pleasure to
coach for many years to come"
Ryan played his minor baseball in the Whitby Minor Baseball Association. He
then played his Junior Ball for East York where they won the 2000 Junior
Elimination Tournament held at Kinsmen Memorial Stadium in Oshawa.
At the Junior Canadian Championships that year Ryan won 3 MVP game
awards and was named the tournaments best offensive performer.
Ryan then played University baseball for the University of Western Ontario
where he was one of the final five nominees for the Canadian Intercollegiate
Baseball Player of the Year.
Ryan's next stop was with the East York Senior team of the Greater Toronto
Baseball League where he was a team Co-Captain.
The team finished 2nd in there inaugural season in the league.
Dodgers GM Rod Holinaty had this comment "Ryan will be a force to be
reckoned with at the plate and outstanding up the middle of the infield"
This brings the Oshawa Dodgers signings to 10:
Darryl Reid (1st/DH), Ken Calway (1st/DH), Ryan Crotin (SS/3rd), Pat Tobin
(3rd/C), Brad Hanna (C/IF), Al Stephens (OF), Kael Racioppa (OF), Ryan Mellor
(RHP), Ryan Colburn (RHP) and Mike Roga (RHP).

Dodgers announce more signings!
The Oshawa Dodgers are pleased to announce 2 recent signings:
These two signings will sure up the very right side of our infield.
First we have the signing of Ken Calway a 6' 3" power hitting 1st/DH. Ken
played most of his minor baseball in the Whitby Minor Baseball Association
before coming to Oshawa and playing his 2 years of Junior Baseball for
Manager Troy May in the Oshawa Legion (Minor) Baseball Association.
Ken has played the last two years for the Northumberland Whiskey Jacks
Senior team in the Greater Toronto Senior League.
Ken led his team in 2001 with 21 RBI, and was second in the league in RBI.
Ken brings senior baseball experience to the Dodgers and with team mate
Darryl Reid we will be set at 1st/DH for years to come.
An interesting note about Ken is that he was the first ever High School player to
hit a home run at SkyDome.
This was done while playing in the High School finals (Prentice Cup) with the
Henry Street Hawks High School team from Whitby.
The other signing is Gary "Spike" Minacs.
Gary will be our first base coach, Infield coach, and is one of the best "fungo"
hitters ever to coach in Oshawa.
Gary is a retired Elementary School Teacher (35 years). Gary is presently team
travel coordinator for the Oshawa Generals Hockey Club. Gary has worked with
the Oshawa Generals since 1982.
Gary played in the Oshawa Legion (Minor) Baseball Association in the 1950's
and 1960's, Winning 2 OBA championships, 3 Leaside League
Championships and is being inducted into the Oshawa Sports Hall Of Fame
this May with his team mates from the 1955-1958 teams he played on.
Gary coached Peewee, Bantam, Midget and Junior teams in the OLMBA from
1982-1992.
From 1995-1999 Gary coached in the Greater Toronto Senior League winning 2
OBA's, a Bronze and a Silver medal at the Senior Canadian Championships.
An interesting fact about Gary is that he holds the record as the oldest (at age
??) player to ever play in the Senior Canadian Championships.
Gary will be a very valuable asset with the Oshawa Dodgers this year and
manager Troy May will call on Gary's vast coaching knowledge and experience
this summer and for years to come.
Gary is married to Barb and they have 3 sons Jack, Derek and Brent.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Barb as I know with out a very
supportive wife none of this is possible.
Dodgers Sign First Player of 2006 Season
The Oshawa Dodgers are pleased to announce the signing of outfielder
Brett Prosper. Brett is one of the talented graduating Oshawa Junior
Legionaires. Brett played his minor ball in the Oshawa Legion Minor
Baseball Association and is excited about staying in Oshawa were he
lives to play Intercounty Baseball for the Dodgers. As a member of
the Oshawa Juniors Brett won 2 Junior Elimination Championships
and represented Oshawa at 2 Junior Canadian Championships. The
most recent was last season in Saskatoon were Brett hit .438. Brett is
currently at Brock University in his 3rd year Community Health
Science Major. Played right field for the Brock Badgers this fall and
finished with a .333 avg. in 21games and a career and team high 11
game hitting streak. Brett was named to the second team OUA all star
this season. Dodgers President Troy May had this to say: "Brett will be
a definite asset to the Dodgers this season, he is the type of player and
person we want to build our team around on and off the field. Brett
has a cannon of an arm from right field and will instill fear in opposing
base runners. At the plate Brett is a line drive hitter with power that
will consistently drive in runs." This signing marks the start of the
Dodgers 2 month signing period leading up to December 27th when
the Dodgers will have 16 of their 25 players signed for the 2006
season. Stay tuned for more signings in the weeks to come.
