Guelph Royals 2, Oshawa Dodgers 0
In the second inning of their first game of a double header in
Guelph. second baseman Derek Minacs was attempting to turn a
double play at second when a hard sliding Guelph Royal slid to
break up the double play. On the play, Derek's left leg got
jammed on the hard slide and he broke his leg.
Derek was taken to Guelph Memorial Hospital and had season
ending surgery tonight to fix his badly broken leg.
When we got to Derek, he said "It's broken I heard it snap."
Manager Troy May had this to say "We knew it was bad when
Derek stayed down. We are going to miss him in our line-up and
in our clubhouse."
In game one in Guelph the Dodgers out hit Guelph 8-6 gave up
NO earned runs but lost the game 2-0.
Kevin Wallace (Midget Call-up) pitched 4 solid innings keeping
the powerful Guelph hitters off balance. Chris England (Midget
Call-up) came on in relief and pitched 2 solid innings.
Manager Troy May had this to say, "Kevin and Chris pitched
great . They deserved the win, but we just couldn't get the key
hit. Guelph turned 3 double plays in big situations and we didn't,
that was the difference."
WP Mel Melehes (2-0)
LP Kevin Wallace (0-1)
