The Oshawa Dodgers finally got to play some baseball this weekend. After having games rained out Friday vs. Waterloo and Saturday vs. Hamilton the Oshawa Dodgers and the Barrie Baycats played Sunday in Barrie in a 2:00 PM start. While warming up for his start on Sunday Matt Tosoni of the Dodgers felt tightness in his pitching shoulder and Steve Butterworth was asked to start his first game of the year for the Dodgers. Steve pitched a solid 6 innings. With the Dodgers trailing 3-1 going into the 7th the first turning point of the game happened. With the bases loaded in the top of the seventh 2 out and the Dodgers trailing 3-1, Jeremy Hartin had an at bat for the ages. Facing Barrie reliever Brad Bellerby and the count 3-2 Hartin fouled off 8 straight pitches before he singled to centre to tie the score at 3-3. By the end of the 7th the Dodgers had a 6-3 lead. Then in the bottom of the 7th came the other turning point of the game. With Dodgers reliever Jamaal Joseph on to pitch, Barrie had the bases loaded with one out. Baycat Cory Turchan worked the count to 3-2 and fouled off 5 tough pitches before lifting a low sinking fly ball to centre. Dodgers’ centerfielder Al Stephens made a thigh high catch in shallow centre and everyone looked to the plate for a possible play as the Barrie runner tagged at third. Stephens threw but not to the plate instead he saw the Baycat runner at second off the bag and he threw behind him to Dodgers second baseman Phil Stone to record the third out. The out was made before the runner from third crossed the plate so no runs counted. In the 8th inning the Dodgers scored 6 runs on two run homeruns by Al Stephens and Ryan Crotin. In the bottom of the 8th the Baycats loaded the bases with 1 out and Dodger Chris England came on in relief and struck out the first batter he faced and got a ground ball to end the 8th. In the 9th inning the Dodgers scored 2 more runs for a final score of 14-3. Oshawa Manager Troy May had this to say: "Those 2 plays, the at- bat by Hartin and the double play by Stephens in the 7th turned this game around. We turned 4 double plays today and that was a big factor in the game"
