Oshawa Dodgers 2, Barrie Baycats 0
The Oshawa Dodgers did something tonight that no other
Intercounty team has done in the 94 years of the Intercounty
League.
The Dodgers clinched a playoff spot, making them the first team
in 94 years to make the playoffs in their first two years in the
league.
In a game that only took 1 hour and 47 minutes to play in front of
483 screaming fans the Dodgers got what Manager Troy May
called "The greatest pitching performance one of his pitchers has
pitched in his 17 years of coaching"
Dodgers coach Gary Minacs had this to say "Tonight wasn't our
biggest crowd but it sure was the loudest crowd we have ever had.
I know it helped Ryan on the mound and it fired up the team all
night. I can't wait to hear our crowd during the playoffs"
Ryan Balan tossed a complete-game shutout to give the Dodgers a
2-0 win over the Barrie Baycats. He had 11 strike outs and only
one walk. He also drove in the winning run with a single in the
first inning and went 1-1 with 3 walks and an RBI.
Ryan Crotin was three-for-four with a double and Adam Stokes
added an RBI single in the second inning for Oshawa.
Starter Matt Miller (2-2) worked seven innings for Barrie, giving
up two runs and seven hits before Andrew Hawes pitched a
scoreless inning of relief.
This was a Huge game for Oshawa, if they lost this game they
would be in 7th place (7 teams make the playoffs) and only 1/2 a
game up on 8th place Barrie. With the win, the Dodgers move
into 6th place and only 1/2 a game out of 4th place.
The Dodgers have now won 3 games in a row to put them in the
middle of the 10 team pack.
