Dodgers Win Home Opener 10-7
The Oshawa Dodgers opened their 5th Intercounty season this afternoon
against the Stratford Nationals at Home at Kinsmen Memorial Stadium. Brian
Sewell got the start for the Dodgers and had a no hitter through 4 innings. In
the 5th inning Stratford scored 3 runs on 3 hits to take a 3-1 lead. Ian
Okorofsky came on with 2 outs in the 5th to record the final out. Okorofsky
pitched 2 solid innings until the Dodgers bats could come alive. The Dodgers
scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th to tie the score at 3. Both teams scored
once in the 6th.
The Dodgers broke the game open in the bottom of the 7th inning scoring 5
times, highlighted by a Craig Megill 2 RBI Double.
Pat Smith (1-0) came on in the 7th inning with 2 outs to get the final out.
Smith went 2.1 innings to get the win.
Ryan Crotin hit a mammoth 454 foot home run in the 8th inning.
Stratford scored 3 times in the top of the 9th to make the final 10-7.
Dodgers coach Troy May had this to say, "Stratford pitched Shawn Gillespie
today and Shawn had the 9th best ERA in the IBL last year. That was a really
good pitcher we beat today." New Dodgers Field Manager Mike Prosper got
his first IBL win.
