Guelph invades Oshawa

The Oshawa Dodgers and the Guelph Royals played a game today at
Kinsmen Stadium in Oshawa.  The game did not go as Oshawa
planned. A few costly errors helped Guelph to a 1-0 lead after 1 inning.
Starting pitcher for the Dodgers was Ryan Balan.  Balan is back with
the Dodgers after playing the past 2 seasons in Professional leagues
in Germany, Australia and Holland. Balan was the Dodgers Regular
season and Playoff MVP and League All Star in 2003.
In the 4th inning the Dodgers again made costly errors and Guelph
scored 3 runs (1 earned) to take a 4-0 lead after 4 innings. Balan's
pitching line after 5 innings was 5 hits, 4 runs, 1 earned with 2 strike
outs. Pat Smith came in and pitched 4 solid innings giving up 2 runs (0
earned) on 6 hits while striking out 2 Royals batters.
The Dodgers could only manage 2 hits off Guelph starter Mel Melehes
who went 6 innings. Melehes also pitches for the Greek National team
and pitched against Canada in the last Summer Olympics.
The Dodgers ended the game with 3 singles. The hits were by Craig
Megill, Mick Kurhan and Ryan Balan.
The highlight for the Dodgers fans on this cold windy day was a throw
by Ryan Balan from deep Center field to cut down a Royals runner at
3rd base who had tagged from 2nd base on the fly out.
Dodgers Manager Mike Prosper had this to say "That's what happens
when you give a quality team like Guelph extra outs in an inning.  I see
a lot of positives in our team and we are starting to believe in each
other.  The double Header in London this Monday will show me a lot
about our team".
