In Oshawa, the Guelph Royals stayed within one game of the league- leading Barrie Baycats by downing the Oshawa Dodgers 8-7 in 10 innings Wednesday night in one of three Intercounty Baseball League games.
Frankie Hare led the Royals with three hits including two doubles, a home run and three RBI’s with his 10th inning double driving in the winning run. Sean Reilly also had three hits for the Royals.
Winning pitcher Paul Bruder (1-0), the third of three Guelph pitchers, pitched the ninth for the win while Andrew Karkoulas held the Dodgers hitless in the 10th and struckout two for his second save. Guelph starter Eric Kelly went seven innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
Kofi Osei-Aning, Steve Lewis and Brendan Emmett had two hits and an RBI each for Oshawa.
Greg Byron started for Oshawa, pitching six innings and allowing four earned runs on nine hits and three strikeouts. He was relieved by Cam Alkins who pitched three innings before Brandon Agnew (1-2) came in for the 10th and allowed one hit and two walks in taking the loss.
