The London Majors claimed the Intercounty Baseball League pennant on Thursday night as the Oshawa Dodgers pounded the Guelph Royals 16- 9, ending the Royals pennant chances in the lone IBL game.
Oshawa scored six runs in the sixth and six more in the ninth to out-slug the Royals, leaving the Majors in first place for the first time since they won a division title in 1988.
Ryan Fleming homered and drove in five runs to spark the Dodgers, while Mark Jeffrey and Kofi Osei-Aning both drove in three runs to pace Oshawa’s 16-hit attack. Matt Firth started and went 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits, with reliever Cam Alkins picking up the win, going 2 2/3 innings and allowing one run on one hit.
Mike Fortuna took the loss for the Royals, going 5 1/3 innings. He allowed eight runs on five hits with five walks and five strikeouts.
Jeremy Ware, Zack Dickson and Kyle Leon all had two RBI for the Royals.
