Betts' Eighth Inning Grand Slam Leads Baycats Over Dodgers
In Barrie, Todd Betts hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the eighth inning and then the Baycats survived a two-run Oshawa ninth to edge the Dodgers 5-4.
Trailing 2-1, Betts slammed a two-out grand slam that put the Baycats ahead 5-1. Barrie would need all of those runs as the Dodgers got two back in the top of the ninth inning before falling short.
David Latour cashed Barrie’s other run with an RBI double in the first and Ryan Spataro scored twice for the winners. Starter Paul Spoljaric got the win, allowing two runs on six hits over eight innings, striking out seven. Derek McDaid allowed two runs on a hit before getting out of the ninth to pick up a save.
Greg Byron was the loser for Oshawa. He allowed five runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks over 7 2/3 innings. Ryan Fleming hit a pair of solo homers for Oshawa and scored three runs, while James Kottaras had two hits.
