Purdy Plays the Hero Twice as Dodgers Sweep Panthers
Nick Purdy hit a pair of walk-off singles to win both ends of a doubleheader as the Oshawa Dodgers swept the Kitchener Panthers to highlight a four-game schedule Saturday in the Intercounty Baseball League.
Purdy won Game 1 with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the 10th inning, lifting the Dodgers to a 2-1 win, and then delivered another RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to score the winning run in the Dodgers 4-3 win in the second game.
In Game 2 Kitchener took an early 3-0 lead but the Dodgers battled back, setting the stage for another walk-off hit by Purdy, this time in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Greg Byron got the win for Oshawa with a complete game five-hitter, allowing three runs – one earned – with three strikeouts and one walk. Purdy had two of Oshawa’s seven hits in the nightcap.
Reliever Andrew White took the loss for the Panthers, allowing one run on two hits in 2/3 innings. Matt Taube had a two-run single and Mike Andrulis had an RBI single for Kitchener.
