Paul Spoljaric took a perfect game into the ninth inning and settled for a one-hitter to give the Barrie Baycats a 6-0 win over the Oshawa Dodgers in one of three games played in the IBL Friday.
Spoljaric’s gem came on the same night that Marek Deska of Toronto also pitched a one-hitter and there were two 1-0 games in the league. But the veteran pitcher was still definitely the story of the night.
Brian Sewell’s single leading off the ninth inning ended Spoljaric’s attempt at perfection. The Barrie ace wound up with a one-hitter, striking out nine, and facing the minimum 27 batters as Sewell was erased on a double play. There has never been a nine inning perfect game pitched in the IBL.
David Latour and Jordan Lundberg both had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run, while Ryan Spataro had two hits and two RBI for the winners.
Adam Garner took the loss. He went just two innings, allowing one run on three hits.
