In Guelph, the Royals survived a late spirited Oshawa comeback attempt to edge the Dodgers 11-8 and win their opening round series on a rainy afternoon in Guelph.
Guelph wins the best-of-seven series 4-1 and will now meet the Brantford Red Sox in the second round of the playoffs starting early next week.
The Royals scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a big lead, but the Dodgers didn’t go down easily, scoring three runs and leaving the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning as the rain fell to finally be eliminated.
Kevin Hinton and Mark Allen both hit home runs for the Royals, who won despite allowing 17 Oshawa hits. Andrew Karkoulas had three hits and drove in three runs for the Royals, and Allen also had three RBI.
Brett Lawson went seven innings for the win, allowing four runs on 13 hits with one strikeout and two walks. Adam Rowe got the last out of the game for the save.
Greg Byron was the starter and loser for Oshawa. He went 4 1/3 innings, allowing 10 runs on eight hits with four walks. Kofi Osei- Aning had three hits and drove in a run and Jordan Castaldo also had three hits for Oshawa.
